How I Got Started

I began playing games at a young age. Card games were a must in my house, and of course we had the traditional games like Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly. In my teens, I grew up playing quite a bit of Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon the trading card game. I spent a significant amount of my high school years playing MTG, competing in tournaments and collecting the cards. Until one day when my brother bought a copy of Catan. I got to discover what board games were all about. However, even though Catan got me started, when I first played Carcassonne, that's when it all changed and I threw myself into board gaming full force. I was playing ever game I could. I couldn't get enough. I found that the community in Board Gaming was unlike any other I had experienced before and put together a few game groups. I built many great relationships through my gaming which forever changed me.

I started teaching games about 10 years ago at my FLGS and found that the more I enjoyed playing games, I started thinking of ways to change and create my own. Many were fairly bad, but I started getting better and better with each game. I started attending the GAMA trade show and pitching my games. Many thanks goes to all of the companies who provided me with feedback over the years, because this industry is the most welcoming that I've been a part of! I began also going to the RinCon gaming convention to spend time with a friend from middle school, who is in to game design as well. I met a number of friends there as well, but through my buddy John from The Legends of Tabletop podcast, I was introduced to Sean from Thing12 games. I wasn't even trying to pitch my games, but through John, I showed him my game: Matches. Sean loved it and agreed to publish it. This was the first time I was going to have a dedicated title of mine fully published, and I cannot thank the guys at Thing12 enough for giving me this chance. I owe them a lot! Now I have a number of games through various publishers and I am proud to be a part of the board gaming world!
